Khodorkovsky accused of burning down the Manege by other means

So says a ‘source’ from Bolshaya Dmitrovka Street.

The General-Prosecutor’s Office apparently loves charging Mikhail Khodorkovsky so much that they’re ready to do it again. An article in the Your Day newspaper shows that Mr. Khodorkovsky was not far wide of the mark when he said that they next thing he’d likely be charged with was the burning-down of the Moscow Manege. On March 10, 2007, the part of the Manege was taken over by the Samotlor oilfield. In the article below, pay attention to the highlighted section, and for exactly how the Manege is involved, go to the bottom of the page.

Tvoi Den, 10.03.2007

On Friday, as a result of the new investigation, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the General-Prosecutor’s Office carried out a search at the premises of Yukos’s auditors, PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The Case

The Prosecutor’s office, however, has no intention of stopping there. There are any number of sins in Yukos’s past, the ruining of the Samotlor oil and gasfield, for example - as witnesses a Tvoi Den source at Bolshaya Dmitrovka Street.

According to information held at the Prosecutor’s office, excessive oil-extraction and misuse of technology did permanent damage to the largest deposit in the world. Yukos’s oilmen ‘drove the oil back into the rock’, as a result of which further extraction will only be possible after a new geological survey and the drilling of new bore-holes.

Another staff member at the Prosecutor’s office has told Tvoi Den that the Yukos-Khodorkovsky case is only just beginning.

‘Mikhail Borisovich will most probably have to put jail-time down in his diary for some years to come’, the source said.

This is the way the largest deposit in the world was ruined - and the Bolshaya Dmitrovka Street source is quite certain that Khodorkovsky will soon be getting a nasty reminder of it. We have to assume that this is the way it ‘ll be - they’ll remind him of it the way they’ve reminded him of everything else. In the name of fairness, however, we ought to tell people that the Samotlor field belongs to TNK-BP and has never (!!!) belonged to Yukos. And Samotlor was already ruined in the Soviet era - which makes it a real Manege.
