“Stagnation is not predetermined”
Mikhail Khodorkovsky answers the questions of “Novaya Gazeta” readers.
The questions put to Mikhail Khodorkovsky were as follows: “Is a new stagnation inevitable? Is it worth staying in a minority in circumstances in which the majority is overwhelming? What is the central power’s attitude to him (especially in connection with the sanctions already applied)?
1-2 I am firmly convinced that a new “cycle” and the return of stagnation are not predetermined. Much has now changed both in the world and in people. But nothing happens by itself. The doggedness and courage of some are needed order to convince the majority. It is especially difficult to show courage in the face, not of danger, but of temptation. I think one permanently confronts just such a dilemma: prosperity or the assertion of one’s position, fame or truth. Be proof against temptations.
3 High officials consider it is safer to serve their bosses than the law. So far.
I wish you success
Respectfully,
Mikhail Khodorkovsky
