More than 30 key-members of Parliament - among others the Chairman of the Committees of Foreign Affairs (Ruprecht Polenz ) - have adressed the Russian Ambassador in Germany with an open letter critizising the imprisonment and illegal treating of the former Yukos head Michail Khodorkowskij. Khodorkowskij has been imprisoned under conditions that „severely violate the principles of Human Rights and rule of law” as it is said in the open letter.
In view of the open letter Khodorkowskij attorney Robert Amsterdam declares: "The imprisonment of my client Mikhail Khodorkowskij on October 25, 2003 was the beginning of a series of considerable violations of Civil and Human Rights of a politically different-minded person in Russia."
